No one ever thought insurance would be entertaining, but State Farm really changed the game back in 2011 with their 'Jake from State Farm' commercial.
TV watchers cackled as "the wife" accused her husband of chatting with a woman in the early hours of the morning when he was actually calling State Farm about their insurance policy.
Literally two spoken lines from the wife -- "What are you wearing, 'Jake from State Farm'?" and "She sounds hideous" -- made the commercial a huge hit, and history was made.
Of course, Jake himself was an appealing character, too, especially because viewers later found out he was actually a State Farm call center employee. Unfortunately, the original Jake would later be replaced, but for almost a decade, people continued to giggle over "Uh, khakis..."

Not every viewer is thrilled with the new Jake from State Farm, but most people thought the original wife was hilarious. Fortunately, she hasn't been replaced (yet?).
But who was the bathrobe-wearing woman who accused her husband of an affair with the khaki-clad "hideous" woman?
It turns out she's Melanie Paxson, an actress with quite a bit more range than insurance commercials. State Farm's iconic yet brief commercial was only a blip on Paxson's radar, and her resume has grown extensively since.
What Else Has Melanie Paxson Been In?
Before she broke into the insurance genre, Melanie Paxson mostly stuck to TV shows and the occasional film role. Her IMDb resume includes an early stint on the series 'Cupid,' but she appeared on 'The Drew Carey Show' in the early 2000s, then was on 'Happy Family' for more than 20 episodes.
After that, Paxson appeared on various other series, including 'CSI,' 'Medium' and even 'True Jackson, VP.' And right before she appeared as "the wife" on the State Farm spot, Melanie was a regular on the series 'Notes from the Underbelly.'
What Does Melanie Paxson Do Now?
Melanie Paxson is definitely still hanging around Hollywood, though it seems unlikely that State Farm earned her any of her current gigs. After the 2011 spot aired, Melanie went on to voice a character on 'American Dad!,' and was in two episodes of 'Cougar Town.'
But then, she made an interesting detour; to becoming Fairy Godmother in Disney's 'Descendants.'
She later returned for the second and third films in the franchise, too. But Paxson also has a family, including a real-life husband and two kids. She's definitely got a lot more interesting life than her earlier State Farm days would suggest!
